For the first time Wyong Shire households, schools and community groups will join hundreds of thousands of Australians across the country on Saturday 24 October as part of the rapidly growing national community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail.

In bringing Garage Sale Trail to its local residents Council saw an opportunity to deliver a fun, creative and community-driven program for the benefit of residents and local organisations who might want to repurpose their unwanted belongings, live in a more sustainable fashion by reducing waste; connect with their community and raise some money for themselves or others.

Wyong Shire Council’s Mayor, Doug Eaton OAM, has welcomed the involvement of Council and the unique opportunityGarage Sale Trail provides local residents and organisations in Wyong Shire.

“Council is proud to be actively involved in Garage Sale Trail this year,” Mayor Eaton said.

“This campaign offers our community the opportunity to think creatively about how we can reuse items that might otherwise be put out for Council collection and possibly end up in landfill.

Garage Sale Trail is a great way to get to know your neighbours and connect with the broader community whilst raising money for yourself or others.

“It’s a grassroots event that has swept across the country, so we’re pleased to be a part of something bigger that’s making some positive change.

Garage Sale Trail takes place on Saturday 24 October and all households, local organisations, schools, community groups and charities can register via garagesaletrail.com.au.

Registration is free and includes a seller webpage that can be personalised by naming the garage sale and listing items that will be for sale on the day. There’s also a whole swag of tips and tools available to help sellers promote their sales locally.

“Now is the time to pencil Saturday 24 October into your diary and prepare for a fun day of buying and selling. Who knows what treasures you might come across,” Mayor Eaton said.
