SPORTING SCHOOLS KICKS OFF ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Mrs Karen McNamara MP is pleased to announce 23 local schools in Dobell have signed up to be part of Sporting Schools, the biggest change to school sport in over a decade.

Sporting Schools: A Government Initiative To Keep Kids Fit, Healthy and Happy

“This is one of the Government’s cornerstone preventative health programmes aimed to improve our children’s health through getting more kids involved in physical activity,” Karen McNamara said.

“Being involved in this new programme will expand sporting opportunities for children before, during and after school hours in Dobell primary schools.

Sporting Schools is designed to deliver sports in line with local school’s needs and, ultimately, to get children active, engaged and having fun through sport, more often.”

Sporting Schools Is Designed To Get Children Active

“A quarter of Australian children are now overweight or obese and many more lack the basic skills like running, catching, throwing and kicking needed in everyday life.

“Our new Sporting Schools programme is so important to ensuring current and future generations of Australian kids keep fit, healthy and happy,” Mrs McNamara said.

“With three-quarters of Australian kids spending their spare time watching television and only one third of children managing the recommended hour of physical activity a day, we need to do more.”

Annually 13,000 deaths in Australia were attributed to physical inactivity and Sporting Schools was a core foundation of the Government’s Play.Sport.Australia Strategy to improve participation in organised sport for people of all ages.

We Love Locals – Locals Buying Local from Locals

Promoting Community Well-Being By Supporting Local Business

We Love Locals is dedicated to supporting and promoting small and local businesses in the Gosford, Wyong, Newcastle and Hunter regions.

We Love Locals is all about supporting ‘the little guys,’ even if this means walking or driving a little further, or perhaps even paying a few cents more for what we need (if we can).

We Love Locals believes supporting small and local businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term.

We Love Locals is about connecting like-minded individuals who believe in supporting small and local business.

We Love Locals values the enormous contribution small and local businesses add to local communities.

Buy Local – It Saves and Creates Jobs

Statistics show that by supporting independent, locally owned business, significantly more of our money is used to make purchases from other local businesses and service providers, which continues to strengthen the economic base of the community.

Studies also show that non-profit organizations receive an average 250% more support from smaller business owners than from large businesses.

Many researchers who have studied how money flows have confirmed what we local business owners had already suspected: there is a profound positive economic impact on the community if we can keep the money in our town and region.

Quite simply, when locals buy local from locals more money stays in the local community.

And the way to do this is for all of us, consumers and vendors, to spend locally where possible and affordable. It also requires business owners to develop relationships with consumers that result in greater local spending.

Quite simply, when locals buy local from locals more money stays in the local community.

Think Global, Act Local

Some Benefits of Buying Local:

  1. It creates more jobs: Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally, and in our community they provide the most jobs to residents.
  2. It invests in your own community: Local businesses are owned by people who live in this community, are less likely to leave, and are more invested in the community’s future.
  3. It encourage local prosperity: A growing body of economic research shows that in an increasingly homogenized world, entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character.

Local Is The New Black

We hope you love buying locally as much as we do.

And we hope you will join us in our journey to support small and local business in our community by buying locally whenever possible.

Stay tuned over the next few weeks as Christina Pinczuk, Steve Wakely, Lee KempGavin Dent and myself roll out Stage 1 of the ‘We Love Locals’ rewards system on the Central Coast.

Until then, stay warm and well,
