Nominations for Wyong Shire Council’s 2016 Australia Day Awards open today.
The awards span seven categories and are designed to showcase locals who have shown outstanding dedication to their community, their workplace, arts, culture or sport.
Council’s Manager of Community Partnerships and Planning, Ms Julie Vaughan, is encouraging the community to get involved.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to publicly acknowledge the contribution of a friend, family member, community leader or colleague makes to the community – the awards recognise and celebrate Wyong Shire’s great community spirit, “Ms Vaughan said.
Nominations for the 2016 awards have been divided into seven categories:
- Arts & Culture Award
- Business Person Award
- Community Volunteer Award
- Sports Person Award
- Environmental Award
- Community Service Award
- Youth Award
The overall Citizen of the Year will be selected from one of the winners of the seven categories and announced at the awards dinner prior to Australia Day 2016.
Council’s Mayor Doug Eaton acknowledged the commitment of last year’s Citizen of the Year, LCDR Steven Reynolds.
“LCDR Reynolds has been a fantastic ambassador for the Shire and played a major role in many of our high profile events this year including Anzac Centenary celebrations and citizenship ceremonies,” said Mayor Eaton.
“These awards are great opportunity for us to recognise both leaders in our community as well as those who work hard everyday behind the scenes to make our Shire such a great place to live,” Mayor Doug Eaton said.
“If you know any unsung heroes who dedicate their time and energy to make Wyong Shire a better place, now is the time to make sure they are rewarded for their efforts by putting in a nomination.”
