David Mehan Calls For Submissions on Penalty Rates
David Mehan, Member for The Entrance today called upon local businesses and community groups in The Entrance to make submissions to the Australian Productivity Commissions review into the Fair Work Act (2009).
The report, due out in November, will make recommendations to make changes to the Fair Work Act which covers more than 70 per cent of workers in New South Wales alone.
The draft report of the Productivity Commission has recommended the reduction of weekend penalty rates and making changes to workers flexibility agreements.
David Mehan MP said:
“The majority of workers on the Central Coast rely on the Fair Work Commission to set their wages and provide their wage increases.
“I am concerned that the commission has already made recommendations to make changes to individual bargaining and weekend penalty rates.
“I encourage anybody who works on an award rate, or makes use of penalty rates on weekends to make ends meet, to write into the commission.”
Review Close Date:
Submissions to the review close on 18 September and will be considered by the Productivity Commission before it issues its final report.
