Councillor Lloyd Taylor Comments on Wyong Council’s Birdie Beach Nude Bathing Motion
Following last nights motion on nude bathing on Birdie Beach, Councillor Lloyd Taylor from Wyong Shire Council said: “I support the rights of people to go naked on the beach though this must be done in a manner that also protects the rights of the child.
“Everyone has the right to free choice, children also have a right to protection and while adults choose to enjoy naturist activities it is a great concern to me that some children are exposed to public nudity at a young age.
“Last nights speaker, who spoke in favour of Cr Best‘s motion encouraging council to support naked bathing on birdie Beach, explained how some families brought their children to join in naked games on the beach.
“My concern is not for the parents rights but the rights of the child to be protected from nefarious activities which are encouraged by some parents.
“I’m not a prude, I am trying to be the rational voice of the community who have contacted me to voice their opinions regarding child protection.
Teenage Sexuality is a deeply personal issue and we as adults must help to ensure there is no exploitation.
I am trying to teach my daughters to respect their body though it seems there are some who are encouraging their children to expose their bodies on a public beach.
I do have a problem with that!”
