Following last year’s sold out performances of the celebrated Henry V, Laycock Street Community Theatre is proud to welcome Bell Shakespeare back to Gosford City next Monday 24 August 2015 with a new production of one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, Hamlet.
The play is a detailed family portrait in the political landscape of a ‘rotten’ Denmark. It follows a family torn apart by murder, a son burdened with the task of avenging his father and a country on the brink of war.
Gosford City Council’s Director of Community Growth Judy Jaeger said Hamlet remains one of theatre’s most fascinating characters.
“Hamlet is a young man cast in an unfamiliar role in a story he never expected to tell. Hamlet is a mass of contradictions and a modern anti-hero.
“We are delighted that this is the second year in a row that we have been able to bring Bell Shakespeare’s amazing work to Gosford City.
“Hamlet is currently on a national tour of 28 Australian venues. Once again, Central Coast audiences have the opportunity to see this production ahead of its season at the Sydney Opera House,” Ms Jaeger said.
“Hamlet is one of the most complete experiences theatre can provide, with extraordinary poetry, intense passion, dazzling intelligence, terror, friendship, humanity, great humour and great grief,” Bell Shakespeare Director Damien Ryan added.
“Shakespeare casts his spell through the sheer scope and grandeur of this story,” he said.
Hamlet is at Laycock Street Community Theatre for one night only next Monday 24 August 2015.
